This time of year many more people take to roads and paths to exercise outside. While it is a great idea to get out there and take advantage of the gorgeous weather, there may be unknown dangers lurking, such as pets or other animals and distracted drivers. Here are some ways to stay safe while exercising outdoors:
Alex talks with Abby, Rosita, and Sofia about his dad's incarceration. Sofia explains what "incarceration" means and reveals that her dad was also incarcerated when she was a child.
A two-year-old from the UK has become the second youngest person ever admitted into Mensa, the prestigious society for people with the highest IQs. The Daily Mail reports that the gifted child can already spell over 100 words, add and subtract, count to 1,000 in English, 20 in Spanish and Japanese, and 10 in French.
Billy Graham once offered Christian parents these six tips to keep children from getting into trouble:
Take time with your children.
Set a good example for your children.
Give your children ideals for living.
Have a lot of activities planned.
Discipline your children.
Teach your kids about God.
Recently I wrote a column recounting the extraordinary positive influence of one angel from heaven – who happened to be my 6th grade teacher, Mrs. Ethel Smith. Through her coaching, inspiration and influence, in 18 months I rose from being the school dummy, four years behind on all the scales of a standardized test, to being a straight-A honor student. She made learning fun, and these first-time school successes were powerful rewards for me.
The healthy development of our children is something we all desire. That which begins in the womb as a result of our love and affection, possesses gender, personality, and inestimable value. As parents, we, too, are in ongoing development, learning to cooperate with God's design for the family. We can do this more effectively if we have an overall plan. The question of whether Christians should home school their children is one that many families wrestle with. The Bible tells us that children are a gift from the Lord, specially created for His pleasure and divine purpose (Psalm 127:3-5; 139:13-16). God has entrusted us with our children for a very short time, during which parents have the responsibility of training, instructing, nurturing, and disciplining them, as well as overseeing their education (Ephesians 6:4).
Usually we have no problem remembering to eat because we have a built-in appetite that is difficult to ignore. Why then is it that we don't crave our spiritual food in the same way?
(See 1 Peter 2:2-3, Psalm 119:103).
His body really did die. The Roman soldiers made sure of that. They were experts at killing people.
Jesus Christ's physical body was 100-percent human, not just part human. Our bodies can die, and so could his. When we die, our physical body dies, but our soul and spirit remain. They are eternal; they never die. The same is true of Jesus Christ. His physical body died, but his inner self is eternal and did not die.
For most of us, our first memories begin at about the age of five. Think about your earliest memories. Arent' they happy events, maybe with siblings and parents playing a silly game or camping in the backyard?
There was a funny thread on the forums at CM Connect and I thought I would share some of it here. For the whole scoop, check out this comment thread on their site. Basically, they wanted to come up with some funny “job requirements” for children’s ministry. Here are a few of my favorites, feel free to come up with your own:
